Reporting and Writing

Reporting has been one of the most meaningful ways I've learned to understand the world and share that understanding with others. Through my work on my school news paper, with the New York Times, and as part of PBS Student Reporting Labs, I've developed a deep appreciation for journalism as both a craft and as a moral responsibility.

Writing for my school paper has taught me the foundations of reporting. These include asking clear questions, listening closely, and translating complex ideas into stories that are accessible and engaging. My primary focus is to convert issues that directly affect my community, in order to show the power of local journalism on small communities. Most importantly, this work gives voice to people whose perspectives might otherwise go unheard.

Through my experiences at both the School of the New York Times and at PBS Student Reporting Labs, I've been able to explore topics in the real world of which I am genuinely interested in. Working within these various groups has allowed me to collaborate with others and share my passions with field professionals. Stepping into professional settings, including The Wall Street Journal newsroom and The Atlantic have inspired my curiosity within this profession and challenged me to think critically about the ways in which stories can be framed- the key differences between experience and observation.

Across all experiences, reporting has given me the space to share knowledge, ask meaningful questions, and connect with others through the sheer art of storytelling. This allows me to learn continuously, whilst creating work that informs, engages, and sparks insightful conversations.

This article offers a vivd, ground-level look at eh "NO Kings Day" protest in Kennebunk, illustrating how democratic expression thrives even in small communities. Despite poor weather conditions, residents of all ages gathered peacefully to voice concerns about authoritarian rhetoric, constitutional integrity, and global responsibility. This piece aims to highlight the power of public gathering and highlight powerful symbols, such as international flags and children attendings, to elevate the protest beyond partisan politics. By focusing on human stories rather than spectacle, this article emphasizes the importance of local activism and reflect on democracy.

Fashion and current trends have always been a passion of mine, and one of my favorite journalistic aspects to write about is style and culture. As someone who typically tries to keep up with current trends of the time, this article allowed me a space to not only research the latest fashion trends, but also make predictions of my own. My favorite part of this piece is the connection I was able to make between style and science, in elaborating on recent eco-consious trends in the fashion world. As a journalist, I find that it is always good to diversify my portfolio with the occasional "trendy, modern, and low-stress" article. Read more above!

Just as everyone else at the end of 2025, I was eager to review my Spotify Wrapped for the year. Along with top artists like Hoizer and Lord Huron, my "wrapped" acted as a walk down memory lane. In looking at my top songs month by month, I was instantly transported back to stressful study days, listening to rain sounds on repeat, and easy-going days in July, with Drake and SZA on shuffle. I took inspiration from Spotify's yearly music recap to write this light-hearted piece. Here, I break down my personal predictions of the reader's personality based on their music taste. Unprompted? Absolutely. Fun anyways? Totally!

★★★ TOP-VIEWED STORY ★★★

From blockbuster movies to viral moments and chart-topping hits, 2025 certainly delivered a whirlwind -- and my community readers couldn't get enough. As the most viewed story on The Herd, this article breaks own the moments that defined 2025 in fashion, film, music, and more. This article makes a point that journalism and news doesn't always have to be serious and factual- in fact, some of the best stories are interesting, gossip-filled, and with anecdotes to popular trends of the times. Whether you followed every headline or missed a few viral moments, this recap brings it all together in one engaging piece.

Right after the 2024 presidental election, there seemed to be a lot of speculation and confusion in  my community surrounding how the outcome could potentially impact our small town. Which of Donald Trump's plans will soon take action? What could this look like for our district? And how will this impact local small businesses? This piece aims to clear the air in a polished and professional manner, to further educate my community and bring awareness to diversity. In all forms of journalism, it's important to look holistically at the bigger picture and how certain policies can affect many different groups of people. Journalism is important to spread awareness and truth; not to influence or spread propaganda.

This piece was out of my usual comfort zone for journalistic work, but I'm so grateful to have pushed through new territory to create my very first "food review" article. As one of my tasks for working under The Times, I had to venture into NYC's Chinatown and speak to locals to get the inside scoop of the culture and history between spices, stoves, and saucepans. For this piece, my aim was to give the reader a first-hand perspective on the hard work and vibrant flavors that went into every dish at Xi'an's Famous Foods. If you ever get the chance, stop by and support local businesses!

This piece provides a clear summary of the latest RSU 21 school board meeting recap, highlighting important discussions that often go unnoticed by the people they impact the most- students. From budget considerations and staffing updates to policy revisions, this article aims to break down complex topics into accessible information. By outlining key agenda items and notable moments, this recap helps readers stay informed about decisions that lie ahead. Read more above and stay informed!

During my summer experience with The Times, I had the unique opportunity to go into the NYT building and sit down for an interview with Alex Vadukul, a staff writer. In my interview with him, I learned valuable skills of not only asking the right questions at the right time, but flowing the conversation to feel humane. A successful interviewer is someone who is compassionate and open minded, which is what I aimed to do in this interviewer. After speaking with Vadukul, I felt inspired by his outlook on approaching stories and continue to use his methods in my own forms of journalism.

As an athlete myself, I felt it was important to diversify my portfolio with aspects of serious and personal topics, such as mental health. Throughout my years as a gymnast, snowboarder, and volleyball players, I've learned that athletes are often their own worst critics. This piece felt especially timely, since I was personally coming off of a season-ending hip injury. Often times, the athletes and celebrities we look up to most have the busiest minds. This article aims to not only provide visibility to those struggling with mental health in sports, but provide some pieces of wisdom and advice I've accumulated over the years.
